Lower limit of normal rather than Gold criteria

The COPD defintion according to GOLD relies on a FEV1/FVC ratio of <0.7. This graph shows that this ratio changes with age. Older people have a lower ratio than younger persons. As a consequence, using 0.7 as a cut off leads to overdiagnosis of COPD in the elderly (and underdiagnosis in the young)
